In the last fragment of his novel TSCHICK, Wolfgang Herrndorf tells the story of Isa, the girl from the garbage dump who meets the two protagonists Andrej and Maik.
Everything begins at the entrance gate of a closed insane asylum: “To be crazy only means that you are crazy, and not stupid.” Isa breaks away from the institution and sets out on a journey, detached from space and time, with a veracity that the adult world has long lost. Her thoughts revolve around the meaning of life and death or the way in which she wants to die, but she certainly does fight for her life as she is wildly determined to conquer a place in this world: “The abyss is pulling on me, but I am stronger. I am the child. “
Isabel Kott received the Bavarian Art Prize for Performing Arts from the Bavarian State Ministry for Science and Art in 2019.
